MAGOPA

Pen and Ink

One Man’s Vision of the Netherlands

From March 3rd 1969 to July 29th 1983, Arnold Van Bergenhenegouwen ( known to his family as ‘OPA’) filled 21 books with a series of beautiful images depicting scenes and daily life in the Netherlands. His family first lovelingly scanned high quality images of each page and is now in the process of sharing each page of this impressive collection of drawings with the world. It seems only right to host Opa’s drawings on a website named after his own ‘restaurant’ he and his eldest daughter Magda hosted from his home for 60 years at Orteliusstraat 8hs in Amsterdam.

‘Magopa’ started in 1977 as a weekly occasion where any of his grandchildren studying in Amsterdam were welcome to come and have a meal, mostly prepared with great skill and love by ‘Aunt Magda’. Until 1993 so many subjects were discussed and meals enjoyed by so many! All of those occasions were attended and enjoyed by Opa and Aunt Magda

It is in the spirit of her own words, that we invite you now to enjoy the wonderful work of ‘OPA’
‘Met enthousiasme en veel plezier de kostbare traditie van onze familie voortzetten’
(‘WIth enthusiasm and lots of fun to continue the valuable tradition of our family’)

Please enjoy the wonderful work of ‘MagOpa’
